The Story Behind: Hired After Bars

Three of our founder's six siblings: 3 have been incarcerated at different points in their lives. Growing up watching them, seeing saw how hard it was for them to rebuild their lives and find employment.

Hired After Bars was born from these experiences.

Hired After Bars wants to create a society where formerly incarcerated individuals can successfully reintegrate into the community, with the skills and opportunities needed to live jail free lives. Our vision is a world where past mistakes do not control one’s future, and where everyone has access to employment and opportunities for personal growth, ensuring a fresh start when released from being incarcerated.

Many individuals face rejection based on their criminal background, making it difficult to secure stable jobs and reintegrate into society. This lack of opportunity often forces them back into the activities that led them to jail in the first place, forcing a cycle of incarceration. Most people who reenter society are committed to rebuilding their lives but face significant barriers due to stigma. Many formerly incarcerated individuals are highly skilled and motivated but are often denied opportunities because of their past.

A Note from the Founder

Hi! My name is Armani Cobb. Hired After Bars was started in a classroom during my freshman year of high school, after receiving tremendous support from my educator, Ms. Lea. I created the first graphic design in class, and everything grew from there.

What began as a small idea in a classroom has now expanded far beyond my city and reached people around the world. Although it was born out of personal challenges and critical experiences, I am deeply grateful to have been able to turn my pain into purpose helping prevent other families from experiencing the impact of incarceration by supporting access to employment opportunities.

Now, I want to challenge the incarcerated system worldwide, reforming systems across different countries and defending clients globally as a career goal.

Thank you,
And always,
For Justice.

I’m trying, Mani.

The One (Third) Who Breaks the Cycle

C.S: A Journey as the Third of Three Siblings Impacted by Incarceration

C.S. is the third of three siblings in his family impacted by incarceration. His experience with the justice system was brief, lasting only a single day and not involving an overnight stay, but it still had a lasting effect on his life and the challenges he faced afterward.

After that experience, he struggled with setbacks when trying to move forward, including barriers to employment. Instead of letting those moments define him, he sought support through reentry programs, where he began rebuilding his path.

Through that process, C.S. discovered barbering and developed his skills over time. What started as a new interest grew into a career through his work as “C4 Cuts,” where he continues to build stability and purpose through his craft.
